For 20 years the Ergohuman office chair has been a leading ergonomic solution for modern work spaces. The first office chair to separate the Lumbar support from the upper back, an Ergohuman chair promotes an optimum sitting posture to reduce back and neck strain. A sleekly designed Ergohuman Chair goes beyond just looking great in a modern office, it is an essential tool for productivity and well-being in the office space.
In this article we will describe the key ergonomic benefits of an Ergohuman office chair as a solution for anyone looking to improve their work environment.
What is an ergonomic chair?
There are many chairs that claim to be ergonomic so it is important to understand the essential features that provide effective comfort and support for long periods of working at a desk. A high quality ergonomic chair should provide enough adjustability for users to customise the chair to their unique body shape and size.
A genuine ergonomic chair actively promotes a users sitting posture, comfort and overall well-being during the working day or shift. Essential features include seat height, lower lumbar support, seat base settings, backrest height and arm support. All these settings need a range of adjustability to cater for different users proportions and preferences. By fine tuning these features a user can distribute their weight to suit their body size and shape.
A well built and durable ergonomic chair enhances posture, reduces strain and minimises the risk of muscular or skeletal problems. The aim is to provide support, comfort and adapability to ensure users maintain a healthy sitting position every day of the week.
Who is Ergohuman?
The original Ergohuman office chair was launched in 2005 by Neil Wu to bring innovation in ergonomic features to the office chair market. The first office chair to separate the lower lumbar support from the upper back rest, an Ergohuman chair delivers exceptional back support.
Built with quality materials to provide a solid and stable platform, an Ergohuman chair will support many years of daily use. An investment in your health and comfort.
The second generation Ergohuman Chair was launched in 2023 and has now been updated and improved in 2025 with additional features and materials. A more sculpted design to the aluminium frame, it is a stylish and elegant addition to any office space.
The key ergonomic advantages of an Ergohuman chair
Experience 12 key features of an Ergohuman ergonomic chair that will transform your comfort and productivity at work. If you work for long hours you deserve to be comfortable.
Synchro Seat Tilt
When a User reclines in an Ergohuman chair, the arm rests and the seat pan tilt in synchronisation with the back rest. This ensures that arm support is maintained in all back rest positions avoiding a gap between the back of the arm rest and the back rest. The seat pan tilts slightly to create a flatter seat. This helps to ensure comfort in all recline positions while reducing pressure on the lower back and maintaining good blood flow to the legs.
Free-Float Mode
The back rest can be locked in position or operated in free-float mode. There are 4 different locking positions between upright and fully reclined where the user can lock in their preferred position. In free-float mode there is a tension adjustment to adjust the effort or bodyweight required to recline the back rest.
Most users use one mode the majority of the time depending on their preference.
Adjustable Lumbar Support
The Lumbar Support is a separate section in an Ergohuman chair and part of our design heritage. Supporting the natural curvature of the spine is perhaps the most important goal of good sitting ergonomics. This support reduces strain and dis-comfort. The integrated lumbar adjustment enables different users to find the level of tension in the lumbar area that is most comfortable.
Adjustable back rest height
Users come in all shapes and sizes and require lumbar support to support the shape of their spine. The back rest height can be adjusted so that an individual is receiving the best support available. Part of the certification of an Ergohuman ergonomic chair requires that it meets the needs of at least 95% of body shapes and sizes.
5D Adjustable Arm Rests
Achieving the right arm support is important in reducing shoulder and neck strain. With 5 different adjustments, the user is able to customise the arm-rests to their needs. These adjustments are height, angle, width, depth and device support.
The device support is an innovative feature to support the users forearm when using a tablet or mobile device.
Adjustable Seat Height
To achieve an optimal seating position the knees should be at a 90 degree angle when your feet are flat on the floor. The seat height adjustment enables a user of almost any height to adjust the seat to an optimal position. This supports good blood flow to the lower legs and reduces pressure on the legs and thighs.
Breathable Mesh
Mesh material is a common feature of ergonomic chairs because it has several advantages over other materials. Mesh is porous and promotes air flow to keep the user cool and comfortable. This is even more important in warm climates to avoid heat build up between the user and the seat. The strength of mesh helps the chair to deliver ergonomic support and its durability ensures that it lasts for many years.
Waterfall Seat Front
The seat has a sloping and rounded front edge to the seat cushion to take pressure away from the arteries behind the knees. This ensures that there is no pressure reducing blood flow to the lower legs.
Adjustable Seat Depth
The seat depth can be adjusted to be shorter or longer to cater for users with different upper leg length. The seat should be positioned so that a user can get 4 fingers between the front of the seat and the back of the knees. This enables a user to feel supported without pressure in the wrong places.
Posture Support & Productivity
An Ergohuman chair supports a natural seating position to reduce stress on the back and neck. Effective lumbar support promotes an upright and aligned posture mitigating the risk of strain and workplace injuries. This increases users productivity and reduces occupational risk and costs.
Why you should consider an ergonomic chair
An investment in ergonomic mesh chairs for your workplace is an investment in productivity and employee welfare. There is a tendency to prioritise investment in technology while overlooking the human physical welfare of workers.
Just like a great mattress makes for a comfortable nights sleep in a Hotel, an ergonomic chair makes for a comfortable and more productive day of work in the office.
