Adding the optional legrest to your Ergohuman chair

An Ergohuman chair provides excellent support for your posture while working at a desk for long hours. So why add the option of a legrest when purchasing your chair. The legrest can further improve your posture, minimise back pain and reduce fatigue.

When you order your chair many models come with the option of adding a legrest.  This guide explains the benefits of adding a legrest to your chair and helps you decide whether it is the right option for you.

Does an Ergohuman chair come with a legrest?

The Legrest is an option on most models of the Ergohuman office chair. When you select the model you will get the option to choose the legrest if it is available for your selected model.

Every user has unique needs and a legrest is an option that will suit many users, although it will not suit everyone. Its is a popular option with the Ergohuman chair and it underscores our commitment at Ergohuman to providing adjustability and support to a wide range of users.

What are the benefits of a legrest on an Ergohuman chair?

Many Users spend 7-8 hours per day working at a desk and its important to change seating position and move your legs to reduce fatigue. Getting up from your chair and taking a rest every hour is important for your health. A legrest can add another level of comfort and adjustability to your seating position during long days at the desk.

Reduces leg fatigue and pain

A legrest can support your legs in multiple positions to reduce strain on leg muscles and take pressure off blood flow. This can reduce fatigue and can be adjusted to vary your seating position. Users will experience fewer aches and pain, supporting a more comfortable workplace.

Customisable angle

The angle of the legrest can be adjusted and set in over 30 positions. This enables the user to customise leg support to maximise comfort and reduce fatigue. This can vary from pushing the legs away from the chair to supporting the legs in a horizontal position. Users can select different positions depending on the mode of working, for example when reading or on a zoom call when legs can be elevated, versus typing on a keyboard when elevation is not comfortable.

Versatility in seating position

By providing a range of options, a User can vary their seating positions during the day. If you transition between different positions through the day or for performing  different tasks, you can choose the mode that reduces fatigue and maximises comfort.

Alleviate lower back pain

A legrest helps to maintain a neutral spine position when reclining and reduces pressure on the lower back. Combined with the synchro tilt position, the user experiences a flatter position relaxing the body more.

Improve blood circulation

Elevating your legs can improve blood flow to your lower legs. This reduces the risk of tingling or numbness in the lower legs.  This supports vascular health and mitigates the risks of poor blood flow.

Prevent risk of swelling

When sitting for long periods you can experience fluid build up in the lower legs and feet. Elevating your legs can assist circulation to improve the movement of lymphatic fluid, reducing the risk of oedema in the legs.

When would you use a legrest?

Users choose a legrest for different reasons and here are some of the reasons you may consider choosing the legrest option

Change seating for selected tasks

When on a zoom call, browsing a device or reading a document, we don’t need to sit forward at the desk. Being able to elevate your legs can improve blood flow and take strain off your lower back.

An injury or strained muscles in the leg

One reason we hear for choosing the legrest is to provide relief while working, for an injury or muscle strain in a leg. Being able to support the legs in a range of different positions can provide relief and enable the user to work longer in comfort.

Take a nap or watch TV

We have heard of users extended the legrest for a power nap during a long day or work, or for relaxing in front of the TV after a days work.

While the legrest offers many benefits there are some potential drawbacks to consider.

Are there drawbacks of the legrest on an Ergohuman chair?

Space limitations

When extended the legrest takes additional space. This may not work under a desk and requires the user to have space to move back from the desk.

Not suitable for all tasks

The legrest will be useful for some tasks and can be folded away under the seat when it gets in the way of movement. Tasks that involve frequent movement or standing wont be suitable for use of the legrest.

Limits mobility

When the legrest is extended the chair will need more space to move and turn. So it will reduce mobility when extended and will need to be folded under the seat when not in use which is a simple operation that can be completed while seated on the chair.

Final thoughts

If you find that using a legrest makes you more comfortable then it is worth using one. If you experince fatigue or discomfort in your legs while sitting the legrest is a great way of changing position and providing relief.

However if you prefer to stand up for relief and have limirted space, you may find that you dont use the legrest on a regular basis.

Can a legrest be retro ftted to an Ergohuman chair?

While it is possible to retro fit a legrest to a Mesh seat, we dont recommend it as it can be a little tricky to fit. However it is possible if you have some basic tools and are happy to take the risk.

It is not possible to retro fit to a leather or fabric seat as the brackets cannot be fitted after the upholstery has been installed.
